Allow Your Realtor To Be Honest

The truth can feel… well… not so good sometimes.  Especially when the truth costs you money.  From a Realtor’s perspective, there is nothing worse than going into a listing appointment when you KNOW that the seller isn’t going to want to hear what you have to tell them.  Things like, their house needs updating, the living room needs painting, the carpet needs replacing, the reason that it didn’t sell with your last agent (even though he/she was able to get you 50+ showings) was because it was overpriced.  Believe me, we hate telling people these things but in order for us to be good at our jobs, unfortunately we have to.

ALLOW YOUR REALTOR TO BE HONEST!  Tell your agent, upfront, that you want them to be honest with you.  Most Realtors are people pleasers.  They don’t want to hurt your feelings and they definitely don’t want you to be upset with them.  You can eliminate this from the very beginning by letting them know that you want their honest, unfiltered opinion of what it will take to get your home sold quickly and for the maximum amount of money possible.  Tell them to be brutal.  This will assure that you’re getting the truth and that your agent isn’t holding anything back.  I promise you that this advice will do you and your agent a world of good.  Honesty is always the best policy!
